Basilika Verzehnheiligen (Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers); Bad Staffelstein, Bavaria, Germany; masterpiece of the eminent architect and engineer, Johann Balthasar Neumann. According to tradition, the Fourteen Holy Helpers was a group of saints invoked during times of great need. Their cult reached a high point in Germany at the time of the Black Death.
